Who does the lab work?

Dr. Kao and our lab technicians

The laboratory work at Practical Horse Genetics is done by Dr. Kao Castle and our qualified lab technicians.

As we get bigger, extra laboratory technicians will join Dr. Kao in the laboratory.

Our quality assurance procedures ensure that each new genetic test reaches high standards of accuracy and repeatability before it is made generally available. We believe the accuracy of our tests is as good or better than any other equine genotyping laboratory.

We are aiming for NATA accreditation

Accreditation through the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA) will provide formal recognition of the competence of our laboratory. Accreditation requires a track record (pun not intended!) for each different test that is accredited. Practical Horse Genetics is currently working to create those track records.

The first standard we are seeking to achieve is ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories). We believe this is most relevant to our clients.
